The Friday Finish….

by Julie on October 31, 2008

Happy Halloween!

It’s once again time for The Friday Finish, my roundup of some of the best frugal bloggers….and some shopping deals and free shipping offers as we head into the weekend.

~ With the economy not being what it once was, Christina reminds us that it’s a buyer’s market on eBay right now. I’m an eBay affiliate and I can certainly vouch for the fact that people are shopping less on eBay. So it stands to reason that with less auction competition, it’s a great time to go shopping on eBay! (@ Northern Cheapskate )

~ If you’re crafty and thrifty, Kelly shares how she makes reuseable gift bags. This is a clever idea which combats all the needless waste of gift wrap around the holidays. (@ Almost Frugal)

~ Did you know yesterday was National Vampire Power Awareness Day? Well, I didn’t have a clue either! Lynnae explains that this day is a new effort to get consumers to reduce energy consumption. Best Buy is the mastermind behind this energy campaign. Last week I wrote about two great gadgets that can help you save on your home energy costs. How much money do you think is going down the drain in your home due to “vampire power”? (@ Being Frugal )

Some deals for you…..

* Magazine subscriptions make great Christmas gifts, especially if you’re on a budget. I’m a big fan of Good Housekeeping Magazine and Woman’s Day Magazine. You can get a whole year of both of these for $10 each at MAGAZINES.com. They have many other subscriptions priced at $10 too. If you want to save even more, shop for these magazines through Ebates, and you’ll get 26% cash back on your order. In fact, I order most of my magazines through Ebates and BigCrumbs because the cash back rewards are often in the 20-30% range.

Want To Learn More About BigCrumbs?

* Speaking of Ebates, if you’ve haven’t already joined to get cash back when you shop, today is the last day that new members can get $10 for simply joining. Of course, you can still get $5 FREE if you sign up after 10/31. I think you’ll be a big fan of Ebates, once you take the leap!

* Votives and tarts are on sale for $1 each at Yankee Candle now through November 4th. The sale price should be automatic once items are added to your cart…if not, use coupon code XF810TS. If you want to take advantage of this offer in-store, you can print the votives/tart coupon HERE.

* Keep your eyes peeled at JCPenney’s Outlet as you never know what super bargains you might find….like these great women’s flannel pajamas priced at $7.99. You can get FREE shipping when you spend $69 or more, including outlet/clearance items. The coupon code SPOOKY is good through 11/2.

* Have you checked out LetsTalk.com ? This is your one-stop shop when searching for cell phones and the best cell phone calling plans, including prepaid plans. There are many phones you can get for FREE when you choose a plan/contract. You’ll see some great incentive offers too among the carriers. This is probably the best comparison shopping site out there when choosing a cell phone and plan…there’s no need to visit multiple carrier sites as all the major carriers are all in one place.

Free AT&T Phones

* You won’t want to miss the weekend sale at Fashion Bug starting today and running through Sunday. Everything in the store is 50% off and all clearance items are an additional 20% off.

Wicked Weekend

Wicked Weekend sale. Enjoy 50% off reguarly priced items at FashionBug.com! Valid 10-31-08 through 11-02-08.

* Eddie Bauer is having a FREE shipping sale now through 11/2 on any order with no minimum purchase necessary (gotta love when that happens!). Use coupon code GIFTS8 at checkout.

Free Shipping w/ no minimum purchase 10/30 - 11/2

* Looking for more savings on your photo developing?

Get prints for just 10 Cents at the Kodak Gallery

Now Through 11/6

* Now through Saturday, November 2nd, you can get FREE shipping at Best Buy when you spend $199 or more.

Free Shipping on all orders $199 and up at BestBuy.com.

Valid 10/30-11/1

* Earlier this week I mentioned all the great clearance deals at a Pfaltzgraff . They’ve made the deals even sweeter with a special mystery discount promotion that is running now through Sunday. Once you’ve completed your order and enter checkout, your mystery savings will be revealed ….. 15%, 20%, 30%, 40%, or 50% off of your entire purchase.

You’ll find much more than dinnerware here… be sure to check out some of their holiday decor, like this musical polar bear display priced at $12.99 (that I’ve got my eyes on) :)

Halloween Mystery Discount! SAVE up to 50% at Pfaltzgraff.com. Valid thru 11/2/08.

* Kodak is gearing up for Christmas. Now through December 1st, you can get 15% off your purchase when you buy any new digital camera or frame priced at $99 or above. I purchased a Kodak Easyshare Z740 a couple of years ago and have been so happy with it. I think Kodak seemed to fall out of favor years ago when more camera competitors came on the scene (Nikon, etc.), but they make great, affordable digital cameras that are definitely worth checking out. You’ll need to go through the banner below to get the 15% savings once any purchase is added to the cart.

KODAK 15% OFF Digital Cameras & Frames $99 & up!

Lastly…..check out Amazon’s Friday Sale

Need A Price Break On The Amazon Kindle?

by Julie on October 25, 2008

I don’t know how many of you happened to catch The Oprah Show yesterday. She raved about one of her new favorite things…The Amazon Kindle. What is the Amazon Kindle?

The Amazon Kindle came on the scene less than a year ago to rave reviews. The Kindle was created by Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.com. It’s a portable, electronic reading device which gives you instant access to over 190,000 books, newspapers, and magazines. You can simply purchase the electronic version of a book at a fraction of the cost of the paper version. You order what you want, wirelessly through your Kindle. How cool is that?

A Few Kindle Features:

* No monthly wireless bills, service plans, or commitments. Amazon takes care of the wireless delivery so you can simply click, buy, and read!

* Simple to use: no computer, no cables, no syncing.

* Wireless connectivity enables you to shop the Kindle Store directly from your Kindle—whether you’re in the back of a taxi, at the airport, or in bed.

*Buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute.

*More than 190,000 books available, including more than 109 of 112 current New York Times® Best Sellers, many priced at $9.99.

*More than 900 top blogs from the worlds of business, technology, sports, entertainment, and politics.

For those of us who love to read and want to help the environment by using less paper, the Kindle is one genius creation. The only bummer that I have found with the Kindle is its initial cost of $359. While the Kindle would more than likely pay for itself in the long run, it’s still a pretty steep investment for most consumers.

However, If you’ve had your eye on the Kindle and have been looking for a price break, you now have one. Jeff Bezos announced on Oprah yesterday that they are knocking $50 off the purchase price for 7 days. All you have to do is enter the promotional code, OPRAHWINFREY during the checkout process at Amazon.com to receive this discount. This offer is good through November 1, 2008.

Use Coupon Code: OPRAHWINFREY

The Friday Finish….

by Julie on October 24, 2008

Another week has come and gone…and so it’s time for the Friday Finish ….

~ Looking for frugal Christmas gift ideas? Consider a tasty, homemade gift from your kitchen. There are several great ideas that may inspire you! (@ “Cents”able Momma)

~ Interested in ways to decrease your energy costs this winter? With home heating prices expected to increase this year, you don’t want to miss these 10 easy steps to make your home more energy efficient. (@ BeCentsAble)

* Still haven’t tried out cash back shopping? My favorite cash back shopping resource is Ebates. New sign ups usually get $5 credited to their account when they join, but right now through 10/31, all new members get $10. Ebates is my favorite cash back shopping website and I’ve been a member there for years. When you sign up, I also receive an incentive…your support is appreciated. If you haven’t already taken the plunge, you’ve got a week left to get an easy $10 simply by joining Ebates!

* I’m always on the lookout for great resources that help us help our environment. If you’re committed to recycling, I’ve discovered a great place you can turn to for recycling old CDs and DVDs. Did you know it’s estimated that it would take over 1 million years for a CD to completely decompose in a landfill? That alone is reason enough to check out CD Recycling For Free

* Here’s another great printable coupon for Bath & Body Works. You can get either a Wallflowers or ScentPorts start kit FREE with any purchase until 11/23.

* Surely you all have heard about how much money one can save on energy costs by simply unplugging or powering down devices which use standby power. Many energy experts now advocate using a Smart Strip Power Stripfor your computer and all of its peripheral devices (monitor, printer, etc.) If you only use your computer for a few hours a day, but keep it powered up for 24/7, you’re probably spending $200 more annually on electricity costs than you need to. Want to get a better idea of the operating costs of each electronic and appliance you use? Check out the Kill A Watt Energy Meter. This handy little device calculates electricity costs in the same measurement units that your electrical company uses, kilowatts per hour. Energy costs can be estimated on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis with this handy gadget!

* Get your FREE tall-sized latte, cappuccino, espresso, freshly-brewed coffee, or hot tea (up to $3.20 in value) at Barnes & Noble. This printable coupon expires October 31, 2008.

* Check out the super clearance at Hanes right now! Simply click on “Clearance” to view all the deals in women’s, men’s, and kid’s wear. I’ve highlighted a few of the great deals. There are several items in all departments for $1.99. You can save even more with the coupon code offers just below.

This Women’s Knee Pant Set is now $9.99 (reg. $28)
There are several sizes and colors to choose from.
